Located in Huangshan city, the home of Huizhou culture, the Ancient Huizhou Culture Tourism Zone consists of the Ancient Huizhou Town, Garden of the Bao family together with Tangyue Memorial Archways, the ancient villages at Tangmo and Chengkan villages and the ancient civilian residences in Qiankou Village. This area stretches north as far as the Huangshan Mountains and receives Qiandaohu Lake in the south. Among others, the ancient Huizhou Town, which used to be the prefecture of Huizhou Prefecture, is one of the four best reserved ancient towns in China. The Ancient Huizhou Town scenic area is the center of the historical and cultural Shexian County. It used to be the prefecture. Clustered by mountains and rivers, it looks delicate and attractive from the outside. Stepping inside, you may be impressed by its elegantly primitive and simple layout produced by its ancient bridges, towers, lanes, streets, dams and memorial archways. Here are six such scenic spots as the Oriental Triumphal Arch Xu Guo Memorial Archway, the symbolic government office of the ancient Huizhou town, the Doushan Street, number one street of southern Yangtze, the birthplace of Huizhou businessmen the ancient Yuliang Dock, Huizhou grand view garden Huizhou Garden, the national educational base of Tao Xingzhi Memorial Hall.

This scenic area is located in Tangyue Village, 10 km away from the ancient Huizhou Town and 27 km away from Tunxi, the seat of the municipal government of Huangshan city.
Tangyue village, more than 800 years old across the four successive dynasties of Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing, boasts of the seven grand and solemn memorial archways: the calm and dignified male memorial hall, the elegant and dignified female memorial hall, the filiety memorial hall inscribed with the names and stories of the filial descendents of the Bao family, and other memorial halls of patriarchal ideas, charity, scholars gatherings, academy learning and local public grain reserve.

Tangmo Village, a former district of Shexian County and now one of Huizhou, was set up by one of Wang Hua’s great ancestors Shu Ju. In 923 AD, the descendents of Wang returned to their hometown of Huizhou, settling down in Shanquan Temple at first. Qianokou civilian residences, located along Zixia Mountains, Qiankou Town, Huizhou District of Huangshan City, consists Ming Garden and Qing Garden respectively. Ming Garden and Qing Garden, as their names imply, gather the residences of The Ming and Qing Dynasties respectively.
For better centralized protection, 24 pieces of the Ming and Qing architecture scattered in the locality are gathered in Qiankou village: ancient civilian residence, memorial halls, archways, ancient stages, pavilions and bridges, which make Qiankou “a monograph of the Ming and Qing folk art” and provide the firsthand resources for studying Chinese architecture and its history. It was listed among the national cultural relics protection units by the State Council and became an AAAA scenic area in August, 2007.

Chengkan Village, located to the south of Huangshan Scenic area (at 29°5 N 118°15 E), is 40 km away from the Huangshan Mountains to the north and 15 km away from Huizhou government Yansi Town to the south. The cultural beauty here adds to its natural beauty among the surrounding green mountains and bamboos. Chengkan Village, an AAAA scenic area, is renowned as number one geomantic village in China and the oldest and the most mysterious in the world, as old as the Eastern Han Dynasty almost 2,000 years ago. In fact, human being left their first prints here much earlier. It witnessed the Neolithic Age and the brilliant bronze ware culture in the Western Zhou Dynasty. As is recorded in history, the earliest dwellers of Chengkan were Shanyue people, who lead the most primitive and isolated life here.
